Tomi Lahren is Pro-Choice and I Don’t Know What to Feel

You may know Tomi Lahren as the conservative talk show host on The Blaze or for her Facebook-viral “Final Thoughts”, where she is best known for loudly proclaiming all the values Republicans hold dear and over-using the word “snowflake”.

I’ve seen enough Tomi videos to last a lifetime, including monologues where she denies the existence of racism, calls Black Lives Matter “the new KKK”, extolls the virtues of Donald Trump and bashes on feminism for no apparent reason. Needless to say, she is the darling of the right and alt-right.

That is, until recently when she appeared on The View with a surprising revelation about her views on abortion:

“I am someone that is for limited government, so I can’t sit here and be a hypocrite and say I’m for limited government but I think the government should decide what women do with their bodies… Stay out of my guns, and you can stay out of my body as well.”

This is something that has always confounded me about Republican ideals, so I have to admit I appreciate her acknowledging the hypocrisy and refusing to align herself with it.

However, her boss and her fans did not appreciate it. Tomi was promptly suspended from her job at The Blaze with many conservatives calling for her permanent termination (and reports are already suggesting that may be the case). The irony here is these same conservatives are always knocking liberals for “impeding free speech”…. hmm. I’ll leave you with your own final thoughts on that.

  1. Consistency in political thinking is very difficult. It’s good that you are struggling with this as it helps clarify your thoughts. For what it’s worth, I am reluctantly pro-choice while despising the idea of abortion.

    1. Yes, I think it’s important to be self-critical even if some of our beliefs end up crossing party lines. Abortion is a tough subject for us all, but I appreciate anyone who can support a woman’s right to choose.

      1. If asked for a vote I would be in favour of the individual’s choices. So yes, I would have to support a woman’s right to choose. BUT the idea of denying an unborn child his/her right to exist is abhorrent to me. It’s an unresolvable inner conflict.
