The Reality of Online Dating for Women

1413993189987_wps_2_worried_friends_looking_aAhh, the Internet. Birthplace of cat videos, online dating and rampant anonymous misogyny.

We’ve all heard the news stories where women have been killed for turning down a date. As horrific as those occurrences are, I think most of us assume these are rare crimes perpetrated by insane, violent men.

Unfortunately, the phenomenon of online dating shows us that rejected men go nuts way more often than we would like to believe. @byefelipe, an Instagram account that spotlights these men, is sometimes humorous – but more often alarming.

Below are a few posts from the account I’d like to highlight. I feel it is important to raise awareness to the sexist and often threatening messages women receive regularly. Nearly every woman I know has a story similar to those highlighted below – and it’s not okay. Warning: offensive language.

So the next time someone says “not all men” are like that… please remind them that too many men are like that and this is one of the reasons women quite literally have concerns for their safety when dating.
